A quote to ponder upon

"There is no such thing as absolute certainty, but there is assurance sufficient for the purpose of human life."

Just a thought

As defined by the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation):

"Literacy is the ability to identify, understand, interpret, create, communicate and compute, using printed written materials associated with varying contexts.
Literacy involves a continuum of learning to enable an individual to achieve his or her goals, to develop his or her knowledge and potential, and to participate fully in the wider society."

Mighty true, don't u think?

Back to work.. the hard chug chugging

1st of all, a big Happy New Year to every peps!!! Sure it's Day 4 of the CNY now but I'm still in the safe zone 'cos CNY's for 15 days.. heh heh.. well well well, been having so much steamboat meals I practically have seafood coming out of my ears.. lol.. 2 steamboats on CNY eve - lunch & dinner, 1 on CNY & then another the day after.. there're still tons of seafood left for more steamboats!!! Gd gosh!!! (@_@)

As usual went to the usual houses, saw the usual suspects, ate the usual stuff (it kinda gets a lil blah after having done it for 25 yrs now.. but they say once u get married & with children, the whole CNY is totally different.. yeah, u'll have to be the one giving out thsoe red packets to thsoe single folks now.. phbbbttt) Money collected has been a-ok.. heh heh.. who's to complain when I'm still receiving those red packets =p Hope I can use some with my savings to get a new mobile. My current one after having suffered a diving in the sink has gone for more hangings and weird application shutdowns & to add to it all, it recently lost its vibrating power. Wahhh!!! Hence, when I'm at some place noisy, I don't have the vibrations to rely on anymore & keep getting missed calls.. blah! I also have the usual eager proddings to quickly get married so they don't have to give me red packets anymore, phbbbbttt! What to do? I'm the 3rd in line of the nephews & nieces & the 2 before me have all been married, the 1st already with 2 kids & the 2nd with 1 one the way. Urgh.. what's with the prodding, constant poking to get married? U think it's so cheap like in the past to get hitched?!?!? Don't get me started.. bleah

Today I started work again.. sure it was a lil hard getting back to waking up earlier than the times I've been up the past 5 days but all's well 'cos after tmr, I'll be on my 2 days leave again.. heh heh.. man, if only I could have taken today & tmr as an extended leave, plus what I've had & would have, I'd have had a 9day break... tee hee.. but of course tt wouldn't ever happen =p It's now mid of Wk 8, 2 more wks to go before the end of Term 1 then a wk of the March Holidays & back to the new Term.. soon after tt it'll be the June Holidays =D Tt would also mean being closer to stressful situations of the upcoming exams & performances of the children & ho boy!! I do hope I float & not sink. Wish me luck!!!

Heh heh heh

My 5-day CNY break starts tmr.. woowhoo!!! Once I was done with my afternoon classes today, I was as happy as a well-stocked winter chipmunk (^_^) tee hee.. No more classes to plan or worry abt for the nxt 5 days, just relax, unwind, recharge & enjoy the nxt 60 hrs. I had all that I needed to be done cleared away even tho' I was on Medical Leave.. see, nothing could stop me frm making sure I didn't have any stuff left to come at me during my long break.

Had an early Valentine's Day to avoid the extra crowded restaurants on the actual day, which was real gd. No huge crowds, no extra noise, just simple nice enjoyment of a gd dinner =) On tt day itself, I had 2 free tickets to catch the preview of Ghost Rider (which opens today), which u won't exactly call a Valentine's Day date movie.. lol.. but it was a really gd movie. Great effects, there were some moments of jarring shocks tt made me jump... heh heh & of course, Mr. Nicholas Cage, one of my fave actors, was the leading man *G* To Marvel comics fans out there, it's a movie that u would wanna catch.. kinda along the lines of Batman Begins & the X-Men.

Hmm.. gonna start cleaning up the den now before I get screamed at.. lol.. so much to go thru & now my nose is acting up again.. bleah.. Clean up clean up.. Clean clean up.. wonder how long it'll last.. heh heh

Love Thoughts

Yes, it's approaching tt day of love not just between couples but between friends as well, so here are some nuggets courtesy from O The Oprah Magazine, Feb issue:

"Love is our true destiny. We do not find the meaning of life by ourselves alone - we find it with another." ~ Thomas Merton

"Love is my decision to make your problem my concern." ~ Robert Schuller

"I have found that to love and be loved is the most empowering and exhilarating of all human emotions." ~Jane Goodhall

"Still I enjoy the long sweetness of the simultaneity, yours and mine, ours and mine..." ~ John Ashbery

"Of all fires love is the only inehaustible one." ~ Pablo Neruda

"Loving should be fun and self-improving, not self-reducing and servile." ~ Molara Ogundipe-Leslie

"There are a hundred paths through the world that are easier than loving. But who wants easier?" ~ Mary Oliver

"We've got this gift of love, but love is like a precious plant... You've got to keep watering it. You've got to really look after it and nurture it." ~John Lennon

"This is a deep, permanent human condition, this need to be loved and to lve." ~ Annie Proulx

"If you do not give right attention to the one you love, it is a kind of killing. When you are in the car together, if you are lost in your thoughts, assuming you already know everything about her, she will slowly die." ~ Thich Nhat Hanh

What has it been

It's been 10 days now since my last post.. been having so many things to do I barely had time to come online.. lol.. Term materials are finally done, too much staring at the pcs made me crossed eyed. Then there were the term photos and reports to be done, just had everything sent out & filled in. Now left with the outside school reports to be completed by this wk hopefully. This wk we've moved into the CNY wk so I've got my den to clean out & Parents Chats to settle.. more work work work.

Came down with the stomach flu yesterday, which hit me like a lightning bolt out of the blue.. I had some stomach pains early morning abt 4 plus & had trouble getting back to sleep. Woke up feeling a little off but still fine, nonetheless, tt was until I started teaching my classes. As the hrs wore on & as I became more active, I found myself breathless, freezing cold, nauseous & aching in the bones. By afternoon, my lips had gone all pale but I still had 2hrs of class left. I could barely move much by 12.30pm and it was hard just to talk. My afternoon classes saw me struggling & heading for the toilet a few times to throw up. By evening time, my temp had gone up to 38 plus degress & I could barely move, let alone keep my eyes open. This bout of illness has been the strangest by far seeing how it came all of a sudden. So far the meds have kept me alright just tt it gets quite drowsy with 'em but tt's better than feeling like crap anytime.

Had a BBQ on Friday night. which went on well.. there were lots of food & there ended up being quite a bit of leftovers.. lol.. I spent most of the night by the grill tho'. Don't know what it is but I much prefer cooking by the grill than eating at a BBQ if u ask me. Sure eating the BBQ's gd but I enjoy being by the fire & the cooking process more so, esp. the babercuing of the chicken wings =) Looking forward to the nxt BBQ nite.. heh heh

Bye bye January

Today technically marks the 2nd day of the mth of Feb now... how fast the previous mth went by. In abt 3 wks it'll be CNY & my long 5-day break frm work.. heh heh.. can't wait =p Plus, am gonna be having a BBQ nxt wk as it's been a long while since I last had one & my graduation ceremony's nxt wk too.. Yeah!!

Now a reflection for the past mth... I've kept to my health supplement regime as well as my less sugar intake & more water regime.. Have also kept pretty much to the "be asleep between 11pm-1am" rule 'cept on my off-days.. tee hee.. exercise-wise, yep it's been happening, so I can safely say tt all's been going gd for the past mth. A big pat on my back (^_^) Tmr is my off-day once more so let's see how much more new Spanish words I'll be learning. Seems like this work towards learning Spanish is abt to take off soon.. one of collegues has a really gd friend who's been teaching Spanish & will be coming to teach in Singapore soon, so she has offered to sound him out for me, to see if he could be my teacher. If that happens, then my long-time wish to learn Spanish would have a gd kick start. Sure, one can learn with the help of CD-Roms or tapes but still, nothing beats learning another language frm a real person in real time, who can guide & correct u on ur quest to learn. I just hope his class fee will be of an affordable rate & wouldn't dent my pocket too greatly =p

Here's to Feb!!!!
